Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 May 2025. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. We keep this simple because our data practices are simple.

Who We Are

Who We Are

Untamed Lands Rest

Untamed Lands Rest (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an independent editorial publication operating at untamedlands.rest. Our registered correspondence address is 19 Granite Hollow Road, Jackson, WY 83001, United States. We are not a commercial operator and do not sell products, bookings, or services.

For privacy enquiries, contact us at [email protected].

Data We Collect

Minimal Collection

We collect only what is strictly necessary to operate this site and respond to your enquiries. Specifically:

  • Contact form submissions: name, email address, optional subject, and your message. Submitted only when you actively use the contact form.
  • Server logs: standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. These logs are retained for security and performance monitoring and are deleted on a rolling basis.
  • Preference storage: a local browser storage entry for your Calm Mode preference and cookie banner response. This is stored only in your browser and is not transmitted to us.

We do not collect payment information, identity documents, location data from your device, or any other category of data beyond the above.

How We Use Data

Purpose and Legal Basis

Contact form data is used solely to respond to your message. We do not add you to mailing lists, share your details with third parties, or use your email address for any purpose other than the reply to your specific enquiry.

Server log data is used to identify security issues, diagnose performance problems, and understand aggregate traffic patterns (e.g., which pages are most visited). We do not use this data to build profiles of individual users.

Our legal basis for processing contact form data is your consent (you chose to submit the form). Our legal basis for server logs is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.

Cookies

Local Storage, Not Tracking Cookies

This site does not set tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to remember two preferences:

  • ulr_calm: Stores whether you have enabled Calm Mode (reduced motion). Value: “0” or “1”.
  • ulr_cookie: Stores whether you have acknowledged the cookie/preference notice. Value: “accepted” or “declined”.

These values are stored only in your browser. They are never sent to our servers. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's local storage data for this site.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising or behavioural tracking technology.

Third Parties

Who We Share Data With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks, data brokers, or marketing platforms.

The following third-party services are used in the operation of this site:

  • Hosting provider: Our server host processes access logs as a standard part of web hosting. Their data processing practices are governed by their own privacy policy.
  • Locally hosted fonts: This site serves the Antonio typeface from our own server, so no font requests are sent to Google or other external font CDNs when pages load.

No other third-party services are used on this site as of the date of this policy.

Data Retention

How Long We Keep Data

Contact form messages are retained for up to twelve months from receipt, after which they are deleted. If your enquiry resulted in ongoing correspondence, we may retain the thread for longer to provide context for future replies.

Server access logs are retained for up to ninety days on a rolling deletion cycle.

No other personal data is retained beyond the above categories.

Your Rights

Access, Correction, and Deletion

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing
  • Lodge a complaint with a relevant supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within thirty days.

Because we collect very little data, most access requests will result in a brief reply confirming what, if anything, we hold and offering to delete it.
